Christy Pagels, LPC, CTT
Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Art Therapist, Certified Trauma Therapist
I enjoy helping people make better sense of their world. In my work as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Art Therapist in Charlottesville, Virginia, I support individuals who want to examine their current situation and past experiences on their way to shaping their future. I graduated from the University of Virginia in 2002 with a BA in Psychology and Studio Art and obtained my MA in Art Therapy Counseling from Marylhurst University in 2006; since then I have worked in alternative schools, day treatment, and in-home services.
While I have experience with a wide variety of clients, I specialize in work with adolescents and adults, with a decade of experience working with this population. I’ve worked to support youth and their families, both biological and therapeutic foster families. In our sessions, my goal is to partner with each individual as they identify goals, learn about ways to work toward these goals, and practice their best options.
As a Certified Trauma Therapist, I have a passion for aiding individuals in processing past traumas using a visual method that can aid in getting trauma responses unstuck from one’s brain without re-experiencing the trauma. For more on this approach, please visit
I also have additional training and on-going supervision to aid me in providing affirming care to support trans and nonbinary clients in their lives.
